We are excited to collaborate with Ben Herrera, Robert K. Jeffrey, Amal Desai and Emmanuel Ordaz Torres on our inaugural comic book, which will feature real scientists and authentic scientific concepts. Ben and his team have a history of crafting characters for DC, Marvel, and independent authors. Our anticipation is high as we aim to transform scientists, engineers and researchers into STEAM Superheroes. Please meet our STEAM Superheroes team!
We're collaborating with educators to transform scientific concepts from the comic book into student lesson plans. Imagine having a comic book as a homework assignment! Our team will verify all the scientific content for accuracy. The comic book will be available for free to read on our website.
We aim to develop a series of comic books and lesson plans that highlight various STEAM Superheroes and their careers. Your donations will help us sustain this series. Please visit our donate page! The inaugural comic book is set to debut this fall.
Can young people from any background pursue their dreams?
The scientists, engineers, researchers, and educators who founded STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Superheroes, know the answer is an emphatic yes. All they need is the right inspiration. From Silicon Valley to Cape Canaveral, and from Europe to Asia to the Middle East, if you ask successful thinkers and innovators, “How many of you were influenced by Star Trek?” a sea of V-shaped palms will shoot up, a sign that all of us, from anywhere, deserve to live long and prosper.
“I will continue learning, changing, growing, and trying to become more than what I am.”
- Data, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
If the human race is to meet the challenges of climate change, AI, and global pandemics, we must have a strong pipeline of young people pursuing STEAM disciplines. We are aware that negative perceptions abound about scientists, researchers, and engineers. Their job is boring. They sit at a desk all day or are in a lab all day. They don’t know how to have fun and are too serious. It’s too hard.
We at STEAM Superheroes say, time to kick those archaic perceptions into the Transporter Room and phaser-blast those self-doubts! Come meet our STEAM superheroes who love cosplay, space travel, globe-trotting – people who are artists, athletes, musicians, dancers, writers, and gamers. The rainbow of humanity.
“They used to say that if man was meant to fly, he’d have wings. But he did fly. He discovered he had to.”
- Captain James T. Kirk
While the current generation of STEAM superheroes can’t fly, they’ve demonstrated world-changing superpowers that can make polluted water potable, create life-saving vaccines, reverse global warming, and put all the knowledge of humankind into the palms of our hands.
If you enjoy your phone apps, movie special effects, ordering online, electric scooters, and advanced antibiotics, thank a STEAM superhero! They solve challenging problems and keep asking the right questions until they find a solution.
“That might be the most important thing to understand about Humans. It's the unknown that defines our existence. We are constantly searching, not just for answers to our questions, but for new questions."
- Captain Benjamin Sisko, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Our objectives include:
“There's an old saying, fortune favors the bold."
- Captain Benjamin Sisko, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Future Captain of the Starship Enterprise. Receiving his training at Space Camp.
We wanted our logo to represent who we are. We are ordinary people whose goal is to inspire the next generation to have big and bold ideas to discover extraordinary solutions. By sharing ideas and working together, STEAM Superheroes across the globe will turn science fiction and the impossible into science fact and the possible.
“Things are only impossible until they are not.”
- Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
"We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
- Captain Malcom Reynolds, Firefly.
Our symbol is the lotus flower. It is a powerful symbol of resilience, growth, and transformation. Its ability to thrive in challenging conditions and emerge from the mud to blossom beautifully serves as a metaphor for personal progress and overcoming obstacles. The gradual opening of its petals represents the journey of small steps leading to full potential. This symbol not only reflects the strength to rise above difficulties but also emphasizes the importance of remaining grounded despite external challenges.
“We are going to stumble, make mistakes - I'm sure more than a few before we find our footing. But we’re going to learn from those mistakes. That's what being human is all about.
- Captain Jonathan Archer, Star Trek: Enterprise
We’re excited to be awarded a STEM Action Grant from the Society of Science! The STEM Action Grant Program aims to develop an inclusive STEM talent pool by strengthening and improving outcomes for underrepresented groups in STEM education and careers. Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio, PhD will be leading the STEAM Superheroes program launching this spring with the grant funding. We will be announcing our programs partners over the next few weeks. Teamwork and collaboration to make a difference in a child’s life!
